Celebrating Holidays Around the World
Mrs. Burns ELA Class completed their Holiday Around the World presentations this week. Students chose a country they wanted to research and then pretended they had an exchange student staying with them for the holidays. How would they be able to incorporate some of their exchange student's customs and traditions? 5th Grade investigators found out! Here's what we all learned.

5th Grade Publishing Party
5th Grade Writers in Mrs. Burns' ELA Class got to celebrate their finished narrative stories by toasting all the authors with some champagne (O.K. its was sparking water but we pretended). All the authors have worked very hard on revising and editing their stories to be able to tell you about a moment in their lives they will always remember. Students then got to walk around the room and read a lot of stories. You can read some of our narrative stories at this link :Kidblog
Congrats Authors!

BFG Global Read Aloud Book Culminating Project: Dream Jars!
Students today in Mrs. Burns ELA class who have recently finished our Global Read Aloud of the book BFG (Big Friendly Giant ) by Ronald Dahl got to present their Dream Jars. Students painted their Dream Jar, wrote a dream to put inside using lots of BFG's special words so they could write their dream from the Point of View of the Giant. They even built me a bookcase in the back of our room to showcase all these wonderful jars. Today they did a Gallery Walk of all the Dream Jars and got to read all these amazing dreams. Great job! ( A BIG thank you to Mrs. York for lending us all the paint and brushes :)

Harmless Holders Design Challenge
The Mission: to invent a way to safely carry 6 full-size soda cans without using plastic or other harmful materials to animals and the environment. These 5th graders designed their "harmless holders" from eco-friendly materials. Their design was to be easy to use. Mr. Musselman was able to come by and hear their presentations today. Good job to all design teams!
