Investwrite Essay Competition
As previously reported, TJ Brosnan won 1rst in the state and 8th in the nation for the Investwrite Competition. There were 10 students who were selected to compete. Out of those remaining 9 submission winners, Mrs Burns Industry Panel consisting of experts who were guest teachers, Mr. Brosnan, Mr. Freitas, and two teachers: Mr. Buckley and Mrs. Burns ranked these remaining essays and picked 1rst, 2nd place, and 3rd place winners. Congrats to all submission winners and many thanks to our industry panel. Here are the winners:

Award Winning Memorial Math Team
Today members of the award winning 5th grade math team presented their team award from Saturday's Middlesex Math Madness Tournament to Mrs. Dressler. Middlesex Math Madness Tournament Results
The Middlesex Math Madness Tournament was held on Saturday, June 14th at Memorial School. We had 25 teams competing from 13 districts and all have a good time. However, only a few could leave winners.
The individual winners were:
1rst place Shane F from Whitcomb Middle School in Marlborough
2nd place Jack W from Pine Hill Elementary in Sherborn
3rd place Sreetej D from John F. Ryan Middle School in Tewksbury
The team/group winners were:

Below is both of our 5th grade teams before the competition. There was also representing Burlington, a 4th grade team, a team from MSMS and a team from Fox Hill Elementary. Everyone did great and scored high points for a very difficult competition.

Individual Competition Under Way!
Its amazing that 125 students and their teachers and parents showed up on a Saturday to do math! Everyone had a great time with the hard math challenges and everyone got a certificate and a tournament t-shirt.
Math Olympiad Awards 2013-2014
Fourth and Fifth Grade Math Olympiad Competitors celebrate a successful 2013-2014 year with Memorial School finishing for the first time in the top 10% . Top Scorer, 5th Grader Aarav presents Mrs. Dressler with the Top Scoring School Plaque. Many students scored enough points for patches, solver pins and a gold pin and trophy. All students contributed to the school award. Way to go guys!

PRESS RELEASE
The First Annual Middlesex Math Madness Tournament will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Memorial Elementary School in Burlington, MA. Schools were invited to register 5-member teams of students in grades 4-6 to compete face-to-face. Teachers who have brought teams before to this type of tournament insist on returning year after year. The opportunity for students to grow mathematically is unsurpassed, the problems are clever, engaging and challenging, and the atmosphere is exciting for students and teachers alike. Last year 70 students from 13 schools participated in the Elite Math Competition in Marlborough, MA.
Sponsored by Burlington Public Schools, the Middlesex Math Madness Tournament was able to accept up to 26 teams from Middlesex County. There will be teams competing from Ayer, Billerica, Burlington, Cambridge, Dracut, Lowell, Marlborough, Newton, Sherborn, Tewksbury, Tyngsboro, Waltham and West Newton. Each team will be accompanied by a teacher who can proctor a team from another school. Mid-morning drinks and snacks will be served.
Calculators will not be permitted. Every student will receive a certificate of participation, a t- shirt, and awards will be given to high scoring individuals and teams.

Burlington, MA wins state distinction in the SIFMA Foundation’s InvestWrite®
essay competition with McGraw Hill Financial. InvestWrite, made possible in 2013 and 2014 by
McGraw Hill Financial, challenges 4th - 12th graders to analyze investments and
recommend portfolio allocations targeting financial goals.
Thomas Brosnan is among 20,000 students
nationwide who take the InvestWrite challenge each year, developing the personal financial savvy needed
to make real-world financial decisions.
